Ususally, Open Table meals are

during term. Next meeting:

4:30 -

The
open table speaks of the shining promise of barriers broken
and
creation healed. Since 2009, we’ve been hosting an open
community meal geared primarily towards college/university students and
young professionals.
We
eat. We meet. We reflect.
And we
connect – with each other, with God, and with the community. As we do
so, in community with one another, we try to work out what it means to
be faithful in the midst of work, school, family, and relationship. In
short, our community seeks to encourage one another as we connect the
dots between faith and real life.
For
the Open Table on January 29, All
Saints' Sandy Hill is
providing the supper space and the meal
will be provided by the participating churches in turn.

Sunday, February 5, 11:30 a.m. Lunch and Parish 'Town-Hall' meeting The All Saints Sandy Hill community's discussions about our parish's future will continue after the church service on February 5th. Sandwiches will be available. We plan to •
confirm our mission in Sandy Hill, •
present options identified at the charrette in November, •
explore potential partners for our parish, and •
identify parish members with gifts to contribute to our discernment process.
This will provide important information as we plan the Vestry meeting of February 26th
when we hope to articulate directions for the year ahead, as well
as bringing forward a budget for 2012 and seeking the leadership necessary for the year ahead. An agenda for next week's meeting is available at the back of the church, and online in our password-protected Atrium. |

• Lenten "House Church" study of Paul's Letter to the Romans Wednesday February 29, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday March 7, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday March 14, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday March 21, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday March 28, 7:30 p.m.
New participants are asked to contact the church office.
 - a hands-on approach to reading the Bible Paul’s letter to the Romans was brought from him to Rome by Phoebe, an owner of a shipping business and a deacon in the church in Cenchrae. Romans would have been first read at one of the house churches in Rome. Paul identifies a number of them in his greetings (Romans 16).
Reta Haltman Finger has designed an innovative way to read scripture and to reflect on it for our day.
It involves meeting in small groups and assuming the characters
who might have heard the original letter read, then debriefing from the
point of view of our day. “
... (It gives) an unusual and creative invitation to walk through a
first-century Roman villa or tenement, and to sit there with other
Jesus believers listening to Paul’s words.
Join in a complete and tasty agape meal. Then walk back out...and think
through what Paul’s claims about good news for all, despite our
differences, means today...” Nancy R. Heisey, Eastern Mennonite University.
