A
Beginner's Guide
Where
should I sit?
You are welcome to sit in any
of the pews. On occasion, some of the back pews are roped off to
encourage regulars to
sit near the front. In any case, a greeter will be pleased to help you
find and settle into the location that best suits your needs.
If you are
unfamiliar
with modern Anglican services, a greeter will be pleased to pair you
with a regular who can help you find the right pages.
Much of the service is in our prayer and hymn
books. You will receive a printed bulletin with the page numbers
for each part of the service, and hymn numbers (which are also posted
at the front of the church). There are two books: green (prayers) and
blue (hymns) in use. For some services, an older book (red) will be
used instead of one of these. Supplementary material is also in the
bulletin.
A complete "order-of-service" booklet may be available for
your
use. These booklets are offered to improve access to the
service. The texts for the service are collected, and
printed in a larger, clearer typeface; in a format that is
also lighter
and easier to use than the books. Ask a greeter to find out if a
booklet is available for
you.
When should I sit?
Standing, sitting, kneeling? Please do
what is comfortable for you.
If they are all comfortable for you, by tradition sitting is for
listening to readings, sermons, choir anthems; standing is for hymn
singing, reciting the creed, listening to the Gospel and for some
prayers; with kneeling
as another option for prayers.
